The best tip when you keep giving up.

"I can't exercise because I have bad knees."

I guarantee part of why you have bad knees is because you DON'T exercise and, if you do exercise, the moves you're doing are beyond your capacity line right now. If you have any sort of pain, discomfort, injury, etc., keep reading.

My goal when working with clients is to provide the knowledge and guidance to eventually go off on their own and have the confidence to know what exercises are most appropriate according to their bodies. Today, I'm going to give you the best tip so that you can start NOW.

Push aside any expectations and THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.

The first part of that tip refers to expectations of getting in a low squat or throwing around super heavy weights or kicking your foot as high as humanly possible. Most of us, especially the men (sorry, not sorry) are conditioned to believe that we are better if we can stack the barbell with all the weight plates and touch our butt to the ground. If you've trained progressively and can do it with good form, then that's impressive.

Leave those kinds of expectations at the door. This is what I tell all of my clients because I don't care about any of this unless you can do it without increasing your risk of blowing your kneecap.

The second part of this is a heavy one. When I started getting healthy at 200+ pounds, I was doing wall pushups in the bathroom 😐 Weird, I know. But that is what I could do at that time. It helped me become stronger and I was seeing small wins by making it a habit.

Just because you can't do a pushup on the floor yet doesn't mean you can't do another variation of a pushup. It doesn't justify your reason for not exercising and treating yourself with respect.

Here are a few examples of thinking outside the box.

No weights for bicep curls ➡️ use full water bottles

Feet hurt when standing for long periods ➡️ do seated exercises

Have back pain ➡️ strengthen the core with moves that limit spinal movement

Pain when on your knees ➡️ opt for standing, seated, or floor moves

Jumping jacks are painful ➡️ modify by removing the jump (tap one foot out to the side while raising the same side arm up)

It's time to stop talking about making a change and start doing it! I am looking to work with people who have made the decision to take action, either online or in-person. If you'd like to explore possibly working together, schedule a call today.
