I don't remember all of the details from years ago but I do remember after my hypothyroidism diagnosis, I began making mental notes of what I was eating. That's literally all I started doing at first.
Shortly after this, I moved two blocks away from my work and my son's daycare. This was a huge step for my health (we'll get there later on). It was then that I found myself scrolling the internet for successful weight-loss stories. I was absolutely captivated by reading through the dozens of stories of people who couldn't walk because they were too heavy. One of the very first stories I came across was of a lady who didn't walk and began her journey by lifting full water bottles.
Water bottles?! I was hooked.
And here she was, years later, doing incredible things. She was playing with her grandkids and staying active. And it started with water bottles.
Another person's story talked about how he would write down all of his food. Now, at this time, I didn't know about meal logging. This was foreign to me. He simply wrote down what he ate and drank. That was the start for him.
The only stories I wanted to read were of people who lost weight through healthy measures. I didn't want to read about weight-loss surgery because I wasn't in that frame of mind. And I could not get enough of these inspirational stories.
What stuck out to me was the fact that they made the smallest changes imaginable. This was what I needed. It felt right.
