Fitness lessons I've learned over the years.

I've been a regular exerciser since 2010 and certified since 2015. There have been a TON of lessons learned along the way. Here are my top 5 fitness lessons I've learned over the years. These are the things I am constantly reminding clients of because most of us are seeing 6-pack abs, sexy moves, and perfectly prepared meals all over the internet.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO FROM 0 TO 60 OVERNIGHT!

  1. Consistency is key. This is hands-down the only reason I'm still going. I aim for 10 minutes each day. Does that mean I work out every day? No. But I know that I can get 10 minutes each day because it's stupidly simple. This leads me to my next lesson.

  2. Excuses will always be present. Busy with kids, working 14-hour days, depressed/just not feeling it, it's a busy time. Have you ever used any of these to justify why you "can't" exercise? These could have been mine but shooting for 10 minutes and reminding myself what I wanted are what kept me from turning these could-be excuses into challenges.

  3. Don't worry about starting big. If you're just starting out, forget half of the exercise moves you see floating around on the internet that you "should" be doing. Start where you are. You'll end up hurting yourself if you go from no exercise to tossing around heavy weights while jumping onto a big-ass box. Seriously, stop. It's fine. You'll get there. And your body will be ready to handle all of it.

  4. You can't out-exercise poor nutrition. This one is close to home for me at this moment. I'm learning a lot from my dear friend Dana at The Adaptive Blueprint that the types of calories we consume matter. Currently, I'm taking in over 200 grams of carbs (I know what you're thinking🤨....carbs are bad though, and make you gain weight), over 140 grams of protein, and under 70 grams of fat. Since increasing my caloric intake and the bump in the carbs, I've been leaning out.

  5. It doesn't have to be that complicated. Truly, it can be as simple or as complicated as you make it. We are our own worst enemies.
