Up to this point, I had a baby, was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, started reading success stories, and making a mental note of what I was eating. I wish I could tell you I started feeling so much better and had lost a few pounds but, honestly, I don't remember if I had by this time or not.
After moving two blocks from my work, I started walking to work. It felt so simple and relaxing to be outside. It was my son and I for those two blocks. Just us and the natural noises of the wind blowing the trees and the birds chirping. It was so nice being outside.
Eventually, the good feels I got every time I walked to and from work got to me. I began walking around the neighborhood during my lunch break. No joke, I would leave for lunch to go home, change, and go on my stroll. After 30 minutes, I'd go home, use...wait for it....baby wipes (no shame), put deodorant on, change into my work clothes, and go back to work to eat my lunch.
Here's the big thing that I never realized at the time. I never had any expectations on those walks. I never thought about how far or how fast I'd walk. I also never remember having the thought of how slow I was. I just knew walking was good for the body and I needed to be outside to clear my mind.
Walking is one of the most underrated forms of exercise. Truly. If you're feeling like you've hit a rock bottom low in your life, go for a simple walk daily. Reevaluate things after 2 weeks of walking and I'd be willing to bet things are looking a little bit brighter for you.
"I can't walk far." "I'm too slow to go for a walk." Ummm...okay, and? Who says you have to walk far? Who decides what the correct walking speed is? Just go. Do not let your mind create thoughts to try to talk you out of it. If walking outside in the daylight is too much right now, just walk around your house. It truly is that simple.
