Secure the bag and get healthy.

If you haven't noticed, the cost of literally EVERYTHING is rising. It's bullshit but I'm right here with you. It's estimated that the medical costs for obese adults is about $2,000 higher per year and as of 2019 the estimated annual cost of US obesity was $173 BILLION! We know it's much higher now because the healthcare industry is raking it in. Here are a few ways you can secure the bag and get healthy.

  1. Shop for a gym membership at the end of the month.

  2. Utilize your HSA.

  3. Buy a pedometer and go for a daily walk.

  4. Buy workout clothes during the off-season.

  5. Check out Goodwill or garage sales for basic workout equipment like a yoga mat or resistance bands.

  6. Workout at home.

  7. Play with your kids or grandkids.

  8. Add veggies. Note: eating healthy does cost more now but the trade-off is you'll be saving on medical care costs later.

  9. Make your favorite restaurant dishes at home.

  10. Plant a garden.

  11. Drink water before, during, and after each meal.

  12. Buy a big ass water filter system, fill up your jug, and stop shelling out for bottled water.

  13. Skip the restaurant appetizer and dessert.

  14. Pack your lunch.

  15. Replace one weekly meal with a meatless meal. I like to make pancakes and eggs.

  16. Skip the pre-cut fruits and veggies and cut your own.

Back when I started to get healthy, I didn't have money, or at least I thought. Even though, I was spending money on fast food and Dairy Queen, we lived in a tiny ass house and I had to save for a few months for my first pair of running shoes. But I made it work. My first yoga mat was from a garage sale and for years I only had one medium resistance band.

Choose to not let these types of obstacles stop you from doing what you want. Choose to be the one who decided to go for it.
