Studies show an alarming number of kids are not active. It's no surprise in this world where we are always on the move, running to the drive-thru on the way to this meeting and that event, and staring at our phones and computers all day and all night. We encourage our kids to join sports and yet the obesity rate of parents is climbing.
Being active as a parent will help your kids by:
1. Showing them how to be healthy: When you stay active, your kids see that being active is good for your body and overall health.
2. Learning from you: Kids often copy what their parents do. If they see you being active, they're more likely to want to be active too.
3. Having fun together: Being active as a family means you can play, explore, and have fun together.
4. Boosting their energy: When you stay active, you have more energy to keep up with your kids and enjoy time with them.
5. Being happier: Physical activity releases chemicals in the brain that make you feel happy, and when you're happy, it can rub off on your kids too.
6. Helping them do better in school: Being active can improve their focus and memory, which can help them do better in school.
7. Being healthier: Regular physical activity can prevent illnesses and make their bodies strong.
8. Teaching them important skills: Being active helps them develop skills like teamwork, coordination, and problem-solving.
9. Sleeping better: Being active during the day can help them sleep better at night, which is important for their growth and well-being.
10. Making them feel loved: When you play and stay active with your kids, it shows them that you care about spending time with them and love them.
Active parents play a pivotal role in shaping their children's attitudes toward physical activity and overall health. By leading by example, providing a supportive environment, and engaging in physical activities together, parents not only improve their own well-being but also set their children on a path toward a healthier and happier life. The benefits extend far beyond childhood, as the lessons and values continue to influence them into adulthood. So, let's seize the opportunity to be active role models for our kids and embark on a journey of health, happiness, and togetherness as a family.
I challenge you to brainstorm ways in which YOU become more active for your kids. Implement one thing and stay consistent with it. Tag me on IG or FB.
I'm also challenging myself by volunteering as a coach for my son's soccer team AND "hiring" my oldest as the assistant coach.
