Surely by now, you've heard all the hype around Ozempic and weight loss. Before I go down this rabbit hole, here's my disclaimer. I am NOT a medical professional, nor do I claim to be one. I am NOT one to say whether or not a person needs to go on this or a similar medication for medical purposes.
Now, on with the show.
Ozempic is not for weight loss. It clearly states this on their website. Ozempic is for managing type 2 diabetes. (P.S. Mounjuro also states the same)
To me, that's the end of the conversation. If the company that makes the drug states it's not for weight loss, why the fuck would I use it for weight loss? But, not everyone sees it that way so let's look at a few more points to note if you're considering Ozempic for weight loss.
It costs A LOT! Both GoodRx and Healthline report a cost starting at $900/month. *High pitch* I'm sorry but if someone is telling me they don't have the money for a personal trainer but are considering a drug that costs more than the average car payment in America, I call bullshit.
Studies show that two-thirds of patients regain weight within one year after stopping the medication (psst...most of the studies I reviewed about Ozempic included at least one conflict of interest 🤨).
Nausea seems to be the most common side effect associated with the drug.
It seems to help with weight loss as compared to a placebo (again, always note the conflicts of interest).
Dermatologist Dr. Elizabeth Houshmand reports that #ozempicface is real. A quick weight loss is great if you like the gaunt look. She states that the only way to unfuck this is to regain the weight. But even then, your face won't quite look the same.
I'll stop there. Obviously, I'm not a fan but do my best to report the facts. My point is to explore all options and get the facts from reputable sources (that's why I cite my shit).
