If you follow me on IG, you've probably seen posts about getting unstable. Adding balance training into your workout is a surefire way to up the ante. Balance training increases the amount of calories you burn, maximizes your results, improves muscle strength and engagement, enhances coordination, and possibly increases life expectancy.
Balance training isn't just for the young at heart. If you live in an area where winter strikes hard, you've probably taken a spill or two....or more than you'd like to admit. Balance and core strength are BFFs.
With good balance comes a strong core.
There are numerous tools you can use to get unstable but I looooovvvee adding a stability ball. The reason for this is that we can easily add it to our entire workout, from stretching to core to resistance training.
For a great stretch through the lats, try this. If you're looking for a killer core workout with a stability ball, try doing a plank with your hands on the ball or have a seat on the ball while doing Russian twists. And for strength training, place the ball between a wall and your mid to low back when you do squats to help you maintain good posture. So many upper-body moves can be done while on the ball, as well. Here's a chest press on a stability ball.
Before you head to the store, know there are different sizes of stability balls. You'll choose the size according to your height. As I'm always preaching, begin slowly and conservatively. Start with beginner-friendly exercises to maintain proper spinal alignment and core activation. And don't forget to be careful when using stability balls. We def don't want any injuries.
There you have it. Core activation. Coordination. Balance. Improved results. The stability ball is a wonderful addition to your workout routine.
Let me know how it goes!
